Y'know, I really don't like being asocial, but I am (often) ridiculously asocial when I have to communicate in English. Sure I'm sometimes shy even when I talk in Russian, but never to an extent that would hurt.
I wonder how this came to be.

How do the personality traits of your cyrillic peeps compare to those who are not? Without any other insight, I'd first wonder whether there are some hidden variables.

I'd also suggest comfort of language and speed of thought->mouth per language, but I don't remember what you're mentally fluent in. You're extremely aesthetic and clear in scripts I understand.

I'd say I'm the exact opposite. Well, not around you, but in general :)

I'm also asocial when I have to communicate in English.

Unfortunately, I don't have another language to fall back on. :P

I'm usually more comfortable with speaking English, the most comfortable being speaking English with someone who's not a native English speaker. Sometimes it does get boring, though, e.g. if the person you're speaking with hardly knows any English to start with. ;-)
