Acquiring technology.
A Kindle: check.
A smartphone: check. Nexus S it is. Now all that remains is for Skype to offer video support for it. I mean, why else would I have gotten a phone with a front camera if not to have a proper videophone?

yes, that's what's on my next FF tab =D

basically, I am using a cheapest possible pay-as-you-go phone. it's very crappy, of course, and I'm kinda tired of it. So, ideally I want to get a cool smartphone, and either stick my existing card into it (likely un-possible, as my card is tied to a carrier), or get it with no plan whatsoever, so I can take it to Canada.

and yeah, having some USD savings accumulated here with a horrible exchange rate, I don't care how expensive it is =)

If you have to *save* for smartphone, I'd say: not buy it. It's a nice toy, and may even help productivity in some ways, but I think it's not worth it if you have to save, it's not the kind of life-saver-I-really-want-it toy. Better save for a nice piano or something ;)

no, I already have savings ("сбережения" по-русски). But as they are in US currency, bringing them to Canada will hurt. Bringing a Nexus S to Canada, on the other hand, will not =)

There's no point getting a smartphone if you don't have a data plan. I mean you can do so in a pinch, but the power of a smartphone is what you do INSTEAD of calling. Which makes your life one of robots and not people, but I loves me some robot living :)

The benefit of a nice smartphone is that you spend LESS time on the phone, because you do everything by all the fancy schmancy internet coordination things (google calendar, email, social networking, etc...)

That being said, my Nexus S is saving my ass in India right now because I can download offline maps and do all sorts of things because it's a portable computer. If you already had a nice PDA or netbook this may be more convenience than improved functionality.
Still, not having a data connection is making life more miserable than not having a voice connection.

well, to be honest, smartphone's not that big of a deal at the moment. I'm much more worried about importing a US-bought car into Canada. That's quite a pita.

Unlocked yes, but you have to buy them from the carriers who all set their own prices for some weird reason.

Koodo is cheapest, 425, most others go from 450->499 and Telus might even be 5xx!

If yr in the US, buy it directly from das Google and damn the carriers :P

While you at it, buy a flying car.

By the time I decide to get a car, they might as well take up flying. :)
